Hi everyone and welcome to Smarter Supps. Sport and fitness have been a major part of my life ever since I was a young boy, starting at the age of 5. Over the years I have purchased many products ranging from tennis racquets and soccer boots to sport supplements in order to try and get the best performance out of myself.
Being a technically skilled sportsman/player but physically less developed than other kids I faced in competition, I was always looking for an edge to help me be able to compete on a physical level. This is when I started to look into not only drills and exercises to improve my speed and strength but also sport supplements.
During the past few years I’ve I have received some very good and some also misleading information. Through my own studies and trial and error; I want to now give back the knowledge I have learned.
Throughout my time I have developed a knowledge and understanding of the science behind supplementation and the benefits they can provide to an individual. I want to provide people with a “no bulls**t” approach on the science behind supplementation and provide honest information for what products you should use to help achieve your health and fitness goals.
My Sporting and Fitness Career
From a young age I was always surrounded by sport and fitness, a way of life I learned from my dad. You could always find a piece of sporting equipment with me, whether it was a tennis racquet or cricket bat to a soccer ball or boxing gloves. I first fell in love with the game of tennis but due to financial constraints limiting the coaching I could receive I decided to move into the beautiful game of Soccer (Football for everyone out of America) at the age of 12.
Despite the sport not being a first pick for most people in my country of Australia, I decided to move to it after a good friend of mine asked me to play for his team one weekend…the rest is history from there.
Being somewhat of an all-round sportsman I found it quite easy to pick up the technical skill side of the sport. I won my first championship in my debut season at the age of 12 and then the following year I made my way into representative teams playing at high levels all around my home State.
At 16 years of age my father decided to sign me up to my local gym. He wrote a training program to help me build some size, power and explosive speed. He also took me to our local sports supplement shop to get some supplements to aid with my growth and recovery.
There came a time to close one chapter of my life and start another one. I commenced studying “Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science” at University While I was studying I was also working at a Fitness First Gym where I would work out regularly.
During those years I learned many exercises and different training techniques from both the qualified personal trainers and experienced gym members. This included not only the exercises, but the theory behind them.
Why I Want To Help You – My Goal
After a few years working at Fitness First Gym, I was offered a good position at my local sports supplement store. Now this is the part of my story that saddens me and unfortunately I learnt that it is a business at the end of the day. Some of these “fitness professionals” will push products onto their customers which they really do not need just in order for them to meet there sales targets.
I know this because I saw firsthand a number of people in the industry doing this. This occurred especially to people that were fairly new to exercise and fitness training because they were easy targets without much knowledge.
Over the years I have been sold supplement products that I simply did not need, and working in the field I have seen firsthand other people getting ripped off too. Supplements can be expensive at times but even more so when you have to buy extra products which in hindsight are really not going to do much for you.
It is my goal to be able to educate you as an individual on the supplements which are going to be best suited to your health and fitness needs. I want to provide you with the science and information on each product and give you an insight into their purpose and from that allow you to make the decision on the supplements which will best assist you to achieve your goals.
